Donate hashrate to the pot: it is live
PotPool now takes donated hashrate. Name a rig donate, point it at the pool, and every miner in the round gets a bigger pot without a smaller share.
Donating hashrate is live on PotPool. Any SHA-256d rig can now point at the pool and work for everyone in the round, without taking a cent of the pot.
I built this for one reason: rented hashrate has to go somewhere, and a lot of it is idle between jobs. If a rental can find blocks for the syndicate instead, the pot grows for the people actually mining here.
How to donate
Use your normal stratum URL and name the rig donate:
stratum+tcp://sha256.potpool.party:3333
0xYourBaseAddress.donate
Anything that starts with donate works, in any case, so .donate-braiins or .Donate2 are fine. On rental marketplaces that want a fixed starting difficulty, add it to the name, like 0xYourBaseAddress.donate+65536. Password x is fine.
The address is required like for any miner. It is how your donation is counted on your page.
What actually happens to a donated share
Donated shares are validated exactly like everyone else's, and if one solves a block, the block is submitted to the DigiByte network. Every block reward goes 100% to the syndicate wallet, so a block found by a donated rig lands in the same pot as any other.
What changes is the accounting. A donated share earns no PPLNS weight. It never enters the round's window, so nobody else's share is diluted, and nobody gets a claim from it, you included. More blocks for the same set of miners is the whole point.
Why it helps everyone
The pool only buys Megapot tickets once the wallet holds at least 1,000 DGB, and that takes blocks. More hashrate means blocks arrive sooner, so rounds close and tickets get bought more often. The miners who hold weight in the round split the winnings the same way as before, just from a bigger pot.
Where it shows up
- On each round page, a Donated work tile shows the total work gifted and its average hashrate. The Round hashrate tile now includes it, so the headline number is the hashrate really working for the pool.
- On your miner page, a Donated work tile shows everything you have ever donated from that address.
- In the OG cards for rounds and miners, so a donation is easy to share.
What this is not
It is a gift, not a way to earn. If you want a share of the winnings, mine under a normal rig name instead and you will hold weight in the round. You can run both at once: one rig as donate, another as rig1.
If you have hashrate to spare, point it at the pool and name it donate. I would love to see the number on the round page climb.
